Tinkering Around

First let me just say that this post is not sponsored in any way by KiwiCo. I wasn’t paid to try out or promote their products… Now that that’s out of the way!

Recently a celebrity wife posted on her instagram about a company called KiwiCo. She explained that it’s a company that has arts and crafts for kids of all ages. So I followed the link, hey first month free only pay shipping… Yes, please! I loved exploring the site and learning about what it has to offer.

I spent a bit of time checking out the really cool projects they had to offer. They really did have something for all ages. They organized them with the cutest names too.
Tadpole (0-2)
Koala (3-4)
Kiwi (5-8)
Atlas (6-11)
Doodle (9-16+) <-Art based subscription box!
Tinker (9-16+) <- Engineering based subscription box!
Eureka (14-104)

Before I left the site I signed us up for the “Tinker” subscription box. I figured why no? all I was paying for was the $5 shipping and handling. If it turned out to be a dud in our home then so be it. The box took less then a week to arrive and came with everything we would need to do the project. I mean EVERYTHING right down to the battery! So I sat down with the kiddo and we got to crafting.

The project he received this month was a spinning art machine. He really enjoyed putting together the motor and circuit board. It gave us some great bonding time, something we had not had in a while. He compared the experience to building in Minecraft, a game he is obsessed with.

I can not recreate his excitement when he flipped on the “on” switch and saw the dial spin. He was so happy.

This monthly subscription is only $20 and it’s probably the best money we’re going to spend. He’s getting to build something new every month and I’m getting to hang out with my kid.

Other STEAM based projects are available at anytime as well. So if we would like a second project that month it’s a simple order away with free shipping for orders over $50. If decideing to do the monthly subscription like we are it’s easy to pause or cancel at any time. I can’t even do that with my make-up subscription!

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math. It’s geared to encourage students to think outside their normal ideas. To broaden their minds to other resources and tackle real world problems. BASICALLY its great for our kid’s mind. Here’s some great site’s to check out to get more information on what STEAM is.
